who?
First of all, thanks for asking.
Alessandro Congiu was born in Cagliari in 1989.
He graduated from the Siotto-Pintor Classical High School in Cagliari in 2008 before enrolling in the Faculty of Architecture. It was there that he began dabbling in graphic design alongside Professor Stefano Asili—first in the classroom as a student, later as his assistant, and subsequently in his professional studio. There, he had the opportunity to work on numerous projects, including L'Ingegnere Italiano (the magazine of the National Council of Engineers), AIAP Design X 2011 (AIAP International Graphic Design Week), the Summer School of Architecture (University of Cagliari), the 2014/2015 season posters for the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the exhibition catalog for Piranesi Ritrovato (a display of the University of Cagliari’s original collection of works by Giambattista Piranesi), among others.
In 2014, he began working as a freelancer, initially focusing on branding, posters, and web design—primarily within the cultural and culinary sectors—before increasingly shifting his focus toward editorial design.
In 2015, he was among the designers shortlisted for the publication Millennials / La nuova scena della grafica italiana, published by AIAP (Italian Association of Visual Communication Designers) and dedicated to Italy’s most promising young designers.
Over time, his projects expanded to encompass branding, advertising, and high-legibility signage design, while maintaining a strong focus on publishing. He has worked on books and publications such as art catalogs, fiction, and technical manuals for both private and institutional clients.
An expert in the history of typography and type design, he designs and digitizes fonts for both print and web/application use.
In 2021, he was selected to represent Sardinia in the Coppa Stadio project, coordinated by the Florence-based type foundry Zetafonts, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Aldo Novarese, considered one of the greatest typeface designers in history.
The project won the TDC Communication Design Award, widely regarded as the Oscar of typographic design.
Parallel to his work as a graphic designer, he pursues photography. His photographs have been published by Mondadori, Vogue, ANSA, l'Espresso, and numerous national and local news outlets.
In November 2018, he opened his first photography exhibition, titled Wunderwasser—a collection of underwater photographs (12 in black and white, 12 in color) capturing the interplay of light and shadow beneath the surface at various depths and over different seabeds.
In 2024, he launched his second exhibition, Gentemangiando, featuring two art installations focused on observing people in the act of eating. The approach aligns much more closely with visual design and performance art than traditional photography.
content on the internet, dabble in non-sense sull’internet, si cimenta con la Stand-Up Comedy and gastronomy (long story, but it makes sense, I promise), and last but not least, design and creates mggn! branded THINGS available for purchase in this site’s bazàar. Yeah, really.
In short, he's someone who does way too many things, doesn't take themselves too seriously despite being quite touchy, but is fairly reliable. Definitely effective and funny. Oh, and modest, too! Thank goodness this isn't his bio on Tinder Hinge Feeld.
And, anyway, I was forced to write this whole wall of text in the third person.
I rest my case, Your Honor.
